Does it happen to you that you think that social responsibility and sustainability are the same thing? If so, I suggest you consider differentiating them as follows: CSR by its essence could be reactive and often corrective and Sustainability could be proactive and often preventive. Applying an allegory with a person we could think that: If the person had an alcoholism problem, from the point of view of CSR it should be treated from health to spiritual and emotional aspects. This in order to control the possible wear on each one of them. However, from a sustainable point of view, you should voluntarily add the habit of exercising and eating a balanced diet to your daily life. In this context, if in organizations we identify which of the actions carried out are reactive and which are proactive, we could begin to put order between what is responsible and what is sustainable.

To support this comment I refer to the Dictionary Phone Number List of the Royal Spanish Academy which states that: Responsibility is: Debt, obligation to repair and satisfy, by oneself or by another person, as a result of a crime, fault or other legal cause. Totally reactive and corrective, don't you think? While the meaning of SUSTAINABILITY is: It does not exist! And Sustainability is: a professional work, a very good production by Lemon Films, which constitutes a success for the Polytechnic television to bring it to Mexican homes . An intelligent way of making television, based on real events, that entertains, educates, motivates and raises awareness. Sustainable quality. Where Sustainable is: Said of a process: That it can maintain itself, as it does, p. For example, economic development without foreign aid or reduction of existing resources. Sounds preventive to me. So if we get to our “more specialized” area we find that: Social Responsibility according to ISO 26000 is: The responsibility of an organization for the impacts that its decisions and activities cause on society and the environment, through ethical and transparent behavior that: • contributes to sustainable development.

Takes into account the expectations of its stakeholders; • comply with applicable legislation; and • is integrated throughout the organization And Sustainable Development for the Bruntland Report is: Satisfy  a social cause and appreciate the value of the organized sector of civil society. It is for these reasons that the series “Paramedics”, directed by Fernando Rovzar, is also of great interest the needs of present generations without compromising the possibilities of future generations to meet their own needs. So the question is, is CSR the same as Sustainability? I leave the question on the table… Edgar Lopez Graduated from the Anáhuac University, he is currently Director of Expok , a Mexican company specialized in Consulting, media and development of innovative concepts related to Social Responsibility, as well as a member of different committees focused on the development of the same topic.
